They are outdoors, and tents are visible in the background. This photograph was possibly taken when the National Guard was called to Rock Island, Illinois to stop riots caused by supporters of John Looney seeking revenge against Mayor Harry Schriver.

Digital Reproduction InformationDigital image captured using a Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL with transparent media adapter. TIFF file created from a glass negative scanned at 8-bit grayscale 1200ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting the input level of the shadows from 0 to 4 and the highlights from 255 to 155, and by adjusting brightness +23 and contrast -5 using Adobe Photoshop 7.0.
