Waiting for the Squaws to finish their Dance.
Waiting for the Squaws to finish their Dance.
TitleWaiting for the Squaws to finish their Dance.
Date OriginalAugust 1922
DescriptionPhotograph of the Meskwaki (Fox) and visitors taken during the annual Pow Wow. The Meskwaki are seated on wooden benches that appear to be arranged in a circle around a large open area. Most are wearing feathered headdresses and ceremonial attire with additional feathers worn in back at the waist. The onlookers appear to be wearing collared shirts; one man is wearing what appears to be a straw pork pie hat. Onlookers (many of whom likely are members of the Black Hawk Prairie Club) and the Meskwaki are visible in detail only from the back. This photograph was taken at the Meskwaki Settlement in Tama, Iowa.
