Harvey Leslie and friends.
Harvey Leslie and friends.
TitleHarvey Leslie and friends.
Date OriginalAugust 1922
DescriptionGroup portrait of three men of the Meskwaki (Fox) tribe, taken during the annual Pow Wow. Harvey Lesley is present on the far right side of the image. Two of the men are wearing roach headdresses; all are wearing vests, suit aprons, armbands, and moccasins decorated with what is likely embroidery and/or beadwork. Their legbands decorated with bells, in addition to their other attire, indicate that these men may be participants in the men's fancy dance. The man at the right side of the image is carrying what appears to be a tomahawk in his left hand, while the man on the left side of the image is carrying what may be some sort of knife in his right hand. An automobile and what appears to be a ceremonial arbor are visible in the background. This photograph was taken at the Meskwaki Settlement in Tama, Iowa.
