TitleMr. & Mrs. Jesse KakaQue in foreground
PhotographerHauberg, John H.
Date OriginalJune 23, 1916
DescriptionGroup portrait of Jesse Kakaque, his wife Minnie, and people of the Sac and Fox Nation taken at the Watch Tower at Black Hawk State Park in Rock Island, Illinois. Jesse and Minnie are standing in the foreground of the picture. Other Meskwaki are visible in the background; some are sitting while others are standing. Jesse is wearing a roach headdress, bandolier bag, sash, legbands, and moccasins with his outfit, which appears to be composed of a tunic-length shirt and pants decorated with embroidery or beadwork. Minnie is wearing an outfit composed of a tunic-length shirt or robe accompanied by a long skirt, both of which appear to be decorated with beads and elaborate trimming. She is also wearing several necklaces, which are likely made of beads, bone, or a combination of the two. She is carrying what appears to be a blanket over her left arm. The men in the background of the image are wearing tribal regalia as well, including feathered headdresses, ribbon shirts, and moccasins. A boy is also visible on the left side of the image.
