DescriptionImage shows a large gathering of people on East Main Street in Galesburg, Illinois, welcoming home what are believed to be the veterans of the Spanish-American War. Some soldiers are visible on the right hand portion of the photograph from the waist up. A horse drawn carriage and a buggy are quite visible as well as two men on horses. There is a large advertisement on the side of a building for the S. R. Swanson & Brothers Meat Market and a livery stable with a large archway is on the right. There are individuals on the sides of the street, also leaning out of second floor windows and sitting on the roofs of the buildings.

Digital Reproduction InformationDigital image captured using a Microtek ScanMaker 9600XL with transparent media adapter. TIFF file created from a glass negative scanned at 8-bit grayscale 600ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting contrast + 56 using Adobe Photoshop 7.0.
