DescriptionPhotograph shows a street fair scene on the east side of the Public Square and Main Street in Galesburg, Illinois, celebrating the arrival of President McKinley in 1899. There are fourteen men in the image dressed in suits and hats. Two of the men are carrying drums. The bass drum has an advertisement for the Continental Clothing House printed on it. There is an older man with long white hair and a beard carrying a box that is advertising Havana Sprig Cigars, five cents each. There are two boys and two girls off to the left watching. The girls are wearing plaid dresses and hats with ribbons. One of the boys is wearing a ruffled shirt and suit and the other is wearing knickers and a jacket. They both have caps on. There is a street display for the Kornwebel Store on the far left.

Digital Reproduction InformationDigital image captured using an Epson Expression 1680 with transparent media adapter. TIFF file created from a print photograph scanned at 8-bit grayscale 1200 ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting the input level of the contrast from 0 to +25 and the brightness from 0 to +5 using Adobe Photoshop CS.
