Galesburg Public Library parade float
Galesburg Public Library parade float
TitleGalesburg Public Library parade float
Date Original1923
DescriptionPhotograph shows the Galesburg Public Library entry in the Fall Carnival Parade in October, 1923. The float has been constructed on a flat bed truck and decorated with fabric, flowers and ribbons. There is a woman standing on the float dressed in a long white gown and veil. She is holding a shield which states, "The Public Library is an integral part of public..." The rest cannot be read as there is a pot of flowers in front of the shield. There is a white owl to the left of her. A representation of an open book is on the end of the float that states, "Galesburg Public Library Fifty Years of Service." Hanging over the side is a another sign that states, "1873 - 4, 500 Vols. - 1923- 57, 610 Vols." There is a man at the front of the truck who seems to be either making an adjustment or cranking the engine to start the truck.
