| Description | Photograph shows a mock memorial funeral procession for President Ulysses S. Grant, (1822-1855). Veterans in their uniforms are marching west on East Main Street in Galesburg, Illinois. There are large crowds on the sidewalks and many of them are holding umbrellas. There is a memorial arch with the word "Farewell" printed on it. There are numerous United States flags flying. The Second National Bank can be seen as well as the sign for the Galesburg Public Library and a hardware store. |

| Notes | Back of photograph states "Saturday, Aug. 8, 1885. Procession in memory of U.S. Grant. Galesburg Public Library on South side of Main Street, second floor. Old time Procession". "95" is written in ink on the upper left portion of the photograph. There is a crease in the left side of the photograph and there seems to be some water damage. The Galesburg Public Library was located on the second floor of 14 East Main Street at that time. Address verified in the 1885-86 Galesburg City Directory. |

TIFF file created from a photographic print scanned at 8-bit grayscale 1200ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting the input level of the shadows from 0 to 60, the midtones from 1.00 to 0.68 and the highlights from 255 to 224 using Adobe Photoshop 7.0. |
