| Description | Photograph shows the Fourth Ward School in Galesburg, Illinois, and it's students and teachers. There are a large number of young boys sitting on a wooden sidewalk in front of the school with a wooden fence behind them. Most of the girls are standing on the walkways leading to the school. There are also some children and teachers looking out of windows. The building is a large brick structure with a cupola on the roof. |

"1876" was written in ink on a the right portion of the photo. Written in the same manner on the left side of the photo is (ph)"oto by McMillen". Stamped on the back of the photo is "Z.P. McMillen, Photographer, Nos. 12 and 14 East Main Street, Galesburg Ill." |

| Digital Reproduction Information | Digital image captured using a Microtek ScanMaker 9600XL with transparent media adapter. TIFF file created from a photographic print scanned at 8-bit grayscale 600ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting the input level of the shadows from 0 to 46, the midtones from 1.00 to.71 and the highlights from 255 to 229 using Adobe Photoshop 7.0. |
