| Notes | Written on the front of the photograph, "Aug. 21, 43. Two man sub. Galesburg, Ills. #5." In a newspaper article written on August 23, 1943 in the Galesburg Daily Register-Mail newspaper it was reported that the vessel was a captured Japanese submarine touring the country to encourage the buying of War bonds and stamps. The total purchased in Galesburg was over $6, 000 and in Knoxville, Illinois the sale totaled over $3, 100. Addresses verified in the 1943 Galesburg City Directory. |

TIFF file created from a print photograph scanned at 8-bit grayscale 1200ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting the input level of the contrast from 0 to +5 and the brightness from 0 to +12 using Adobe PhotoShop CS. |
