| Description | Photograph shows the circulation desk of the first Galesburg Public Library. There are two young men standing behind the desk and one woman seated on the right. There are two lamps on either end of the desk and a clock above it which reads 9:02. There is a brass railing in front of the desk and another room can be seen beyond. There are card catalogs on the left. Printed above the desk on the wall behind the circulation desk is a quote from Emerson: "In the highest civilization the book is still the highest delight." |

| Notes | This was a Carnegie funded library which burned to the ground in 1958. Printed above the desk on the wall behind the circulation desk is a quote from Emerson: "In the highest civilization the book is still the highest delight." Written in ink underneath the photograph on the matting is "Circulation desk - second floor - Galesburg Public Library, 1902-1958. Address verified in the 1904 Galesburg City Directory. |

| Digital Reproduction Information | Digital image captured using an Epson Expression 1680 scanner with transparent media adapter. TIFF file created from a print phtograph scanned at 8-bit gryascale 600ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjsuting the input level fo the contrast from 0 to +10 and the brightness from 0 to +20 using Adobe Photoshop CS. |
