| Notes | In a newspaper advertisement dating to the time of the opening of the hospital in 1901 it stated that the Galesburg Sanitarium offered a variety of water cures. They used a hygio therapeutic system, which included Russian, Turkish, Roman, salt glow, hot air and electric light baths. The hospital had a 100 foot swimming pool, convalescent rooms, showers and exercise rooms. It had accommodations for about 20 patients. In the 1904 booklet, Galesburg: a souvenir program for the Illinois Press Association, it is printed underneath this same image "These buildings were erected by Dr. E. V. D. Morris in 1899 for the purpose of establishing a great sanitarium. He failed to realize sufficient income on them to be able to run them as he had planned, and converted them into apartment houses." This occurred sometime between 1905 to 1912 as reports very by newspaper accounts given in 1959. In 1935 the swimming pool and recreational facilities were opened to the public. The building housing the pool was demolished in 1959 to make more room for McCabe Scrap Iron & Materials Company. Address and name of institution verified in the 1901 Galesburg City Directory. |
