DescriptionPostcard shows the Old Ladies Home in Knoxville, Illinois under construction. It is a brick building with several columns, a long front porch, two balconies, a portico and two dormers on the roof in the front view. On the left there are more columns and what appears to be a second entance which also has a portico over it. There are a variety of construction materials in the foreground and a wheeled object, which appears to be for mixing cement. There are two men in the center of the photograph. One is standing and the other is lounging on one of the railings.

NotesThe home opened in 1912 and was purchased by the P.E.O. Sisterhood in 1952. It was demolished in 2002. There is a small damaged spot on the left side of the photograph. Written in white ink is, Old Ladies Home Knoxville Ill.

Object Description1 postcard : sepia toned ; 3.5 x 5.5 in.
Digital Reproduction InformationDigital image captured using a Microtek ScanMaker 9600XL with transparent media adapter. TIFF file created from a postcard scanned at 8-bit grayscale 1200ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting the input level of the shadows from 0 to 28, the highlights from 255 to 209, adjusting the brightness from 0 to -10 and the contrast from 0 to 25 using Adobe Photoshop 7.0.
