| Description | Photograph shows the front of St. Mary's Hospital and the Sisters of St. Francis house on the right. The hospital is a five story stone and brick building with a statue of St. Mary placed in a small alcove in the center of the exterior of the fifth floor. There are three dormer windows, a ventilation vent and a cupolla with a cross on top of it on the roof. The house is made of stone, brick and wood and is three stories high, with a turret on the right side. There is a large smokestack behind the house. The street is paved with bricks and the Knox County Courthouse lawn and sidewalk can be seen in the foreground. There is a partial view of an automobile on the far right. |

| Notes | The house in the right of the photograph was used as the convent home for the Third Order of the Sisters of St. Francis who according to historical reports helped with the building of the hospital, were the administrators for a number of years and also worked as nurses there. The hospital building still stands but no longer houses a hospital. |

| Digital Reproduction Information | Digital image captured using an Epson Expression 1680 with transparent media adapter. TIFF file created from a print photograph scanned at 8 bit grayscale 600ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting the input level of contrast from 0 to +10 and the brightness from 0 to +8 using Adobe Photoshop CS. |
