DescriptionPhotograph of the exterior of the Allen Chapel A. M. E. Church, a wooden building with stained glass windows and a steeple. A circular decoration in the upper portion of the building reads : "A. M. E. Church Allen Chapel 1876." The building has a two-door entrance, shutters on the first level windows, two chimneys, and what appears to be a lightning rod and weather vane on the steeple. Brick sidewalks are visible on both sides of the unpaved street.

NotesIn later years the address given for the church is 153 East Tompkins Street. However, in the 1890 Galesburg City Directory and before the street number is 129. During that time it was common for street numbers to be changed, presumabely to accomodate new buildings. Photograph is mounted on an oval matte.
