	Union Hotel Title Union Hotel Date Original ca. 1875 Description Photograph shows a view of the Union Hotel with the Farmers and Mechanics Bank and Savings Department on the right and Boyd & Rearick Hardware on the left. The businesses are located in the same building on the northeast side of the Public Square. A large crowd is assembled in front of the hotel and the bank. People are also visible on a front hotel balcony and men are sitting in chairs outside on an overhanging roof on the building's right side. Many men are wearing suits and top hats or bowler hats. People are also looking out of windows. Several wagons are visible as well as a coach backed up to the hotel entrance. The building is three stories high with several chimneys and a sign, which advertises the name of the hotel in the center of the roof. The street appears to be unpaved. The hotel and the bank are listed in the 1875 Galesburg City Directory as being at that location. The Union Hotel was considered the finest hotel in Galesburg until the construction of the Hotel Custer. Names of the businesses and addresses were verified in the 1875 Galesburg City Directory.
