DescriptionPhotograph shows the Henry R. Sanderson house, a square-frame home with two chimneys, a widow's walk and shutters. There appears to be an addition to the back of the house with another chimney. A sign attached to the side porch reads "...for sale" (the first two words are not readable). A brick sidewalk is in front of the house. The cupola of Beecher Chapel can be see at upper right.

NotesThis is the house where Abraham Lincoln stayed while he was in Galesburg for the debate with Stephen A. Douglas. The location is where the Children's Room of the Galesburg Public Library now stands. The house faced South Broad Street. Address confirmed in the 1857 Galesburg City Directory. Image taken from the book, Galesburg.

Digital Reproduction InformationDigital image captured using an Epson Expression 1680 scanner with a transparent media adapter. TIFF file created from a print photograph scanned at 8-bit grayscale 1200ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting the input level ofthe contrast from 0 to +5 and the brightness from 0 to +21 using Adobe Photoshop CS.
