DescriptionPhotograph is of the Broad Street and Lombard University electric street railway car in Galesburg, Illinois. The car is enclosed with windows and has a platform on both ends and four wheels. The words Broad Street and Lombard University are printed on the overhanging roof and the word Galesburg is printed on the lower portion of the car. There are five men and two women on and near the car. The two women, both in flowered hats are identified as Mabel Dow and Maude Gumm. The man next to them in a bowler hat is identfied as Frank Conger. The man behind the two women is holding something and appears to be the conductor. There is a stone pathway leading from the campus area to the street and a wooden fence is on the right. The Lombard University Main Building is also on the far right. The road the car is crossing is unpaved.

NotesLombard Main Building identified in 1906 Lombard College yearbook. Lombard University address verified in 1893 Galesburg city directory. The photograph has been torn in two and mended with tape. There are some scratches on the left portion of the photograph.

Digital Reproduction InformationDigital image captured using a Microtek ScanMaker 9600XL with transparent media adapter. TIFF file created from a photographic print scanned at 8-bit grayscale 600ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting the input level of the shadows from 0 to 20 and the highlights from 245 to 243 using Adobe PhootShop 7.0.
