| Description | Image shows men working in a pit with teams of horses and wagons hauling soil out to lay the foundation for a building on the east side of South Cherry Street just south of Simmons Street. There are several more horses and wagons waiting in the street. The men in the pit are using hand shovels to dig the foundation of what is assumed to be a basement. The Galesburg Post Office and the Galesburg Public Library can be seen across the street. There is a small building to the right of the pit and a corner of the Brown's Business College building can be seen in the upper right corner of the image. The cupola of Churchill School can be seen just to the left of the library chimney. |

| Notes | From the collection of Hazel Coffey Goad and loaned to the library by her son, Ken Goad so that it could be scanned, printed and added to the collection. It is not known at this time what building was going to be erected at the site in this image due to a lack of Galesburg City Directories during this time period. The Galesburg Public Library was opened on that site in 1902. |
