Mr. Taft was the Republican Presidential candidate at that time. He was at Knox College to give a speech on the fiftieth anniversary of the Lincoln-Douglas debate which was held at the same site on October 7, 1858. |

TIFF file created from a photograph scanned at 8-bit grayscale at 1200 ppi. The master scan is untouched but this display image was enhanced by adjusting the shadows from 0 to 36, the highlights from 255 to 200, and the brightness +6 using Adobe Photoshop 7.0. |
