The man is seated on the photographer's left and has his elbow leaning on the porch rail, a newspaper spread on his lap, and his legs crossed. He has gray hair, mustache, and long narrow beard. He is dressed in a dark suit, vest and tie. The woman is seated in a rocker on the photographer's right. She is dressed in a dark long-sleeved dress with her hands folded in her lap. Her hair is parted in the center and pulled back into a bun.

NotesThe original negative envelope is labeled L. W. Petersen. Based on city directories, census findings and local newspapers it seems likely this is Lavinius W. Petersen and his wife, Anetta (Hoepfner) Petersen at about the time of their Golden Wedding Anniversary in July 1908. L. W. Petersen died in 1910 and Anetta died in 1914. See also X477a and b for individual images of this man and woman.

TIFF file created from a glass negative scanned at 8-bit grayscale 600 ppi.The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting brightness to 52 and contrast to 53 and rotating the image 90 degrees using Microsoft PhotoEditor.
