NotesThe original negative envelope is labeled S. F. Smith. Samuel F. Smith came to Davenport in about 1855. He was a lawyer and was identified with a variety of financial and public enterprises. He served on the Davenport city council for four years and in 1897 served as the mayor of Davenport. He was convicted of larceny by embezzlement in 1904 and died in 1909.
