| Notes | The original negative envelope is labeled E. B. Hayward. Based on information in federal and state census records, Davenport city directories, newspaper articles and obituaries and other sources it seems likely that the subject of this image is Ellen (Phelps) Hayward, wife of Major Eugene B. Hayward. She was born in Essex County, New York, the youngest of twelve children, and lived to be 85, passing away at her Davenport home in 1928. See also images X1078 and X1208. |

The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting brightness to 8, contrast to 5 and midtones to 8 in Microsoft Office Picture Manager. |
