NotesThe original negative envelope is labeled E. B. Hayward. Based on information in federal and census records, Davenport city directories, newspaper articles and obituaries and other resources it seems likely this is Major Eugene B. Hayward and one of his grandsons, perhaps William Phelps Kimball, child of his daughter Nellie and husband William Hale Kimball. The boy was born in about 1905 making his about the right age for this child. Major Hayward served in the Fifth New York cavalry during the Civil War and was prominent in the lumber business.
