| Notes | The original negative envelope is labeled Silas W. Gardiner Hinkle. It seems probable this is Silas W. Gardiner, son of Stimson and Nancy (Bonney) Gardiner. Born in 1846 in Carroll County, Illinois, Silas entered his father's lumber business in Clinton, Iowa and Laurel, Mississippi. He married Louisa C. Henkel in 1870 in Clinton. Silas Wright Gardiner died June 13, 1907 and is buried in Springdale Cemetery, Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa. |

TIFF fill created from a glass negative scanned at 8-bit grayscale 600 ppi. The master scan is untouched, but this display image was enhanced by adjusting brightness to 8 and midtones to 3 in Microsoft Office Picture Manager. |
