NotesThe original published image is labeled Residene of S. F. Smith. This house was located on the northeast corner of Locust and Brady Streets. A listing appears for this address in Davenport city directories beginning in 1880. Samuel Frances Smith, his wife Mary (Reed) Smith and their daughter Anna lived in this home until 1903. Smith was a lawyer, city council member and served as mayor of Davenport. He was involved in local banking and various boards and organizations. In 1904 he was charged and convicted of embezzlement and was sentenced to eleven years in prison. In 1908 the residence is listed in directories with occupants Oscar and Mathilda Koehler. Razed in 1940, this is now the site of Madison Elementary School with an address of 116 East Locust. The location of the Police Patrol Box was verified in the 1888-1889 Davenport city directory.
