NotesThe original published image is labeled Pumping Station No. 2, and Reservoir, Davenport Water Co. The 1888-1889 Davenport city directory lists the address for this pumping station and reservoir as the west side of Ripley Street between Fourteenth and Fifteenth Streets. The Davenport Water Company lists James P. Donahue as secretary. According to an 1892 description of the plant by Donahue, Pumping Station Number 2 supplied all the water for the portion of Davenport lying above Sixth Street. In time of fire the pumps of this station could be changed to increase pressure to the lower city if necessary. The reservoir had a five million gallon capacity and was designed as a receiving basin for station number 2. It held sufficient water to give the pumping station one or two days rest, if ever required.
