| Notes | The original published image is labeled Davenport High School. This three-story brick structure with a belfry tower was built in 1875 on a bluff upon the block bounded by Seventh and Eighth and Rock Island (later Pershing) and Iowa streets. J. B. Young was the first principal from 1875-1878. Frederick E. Stratton was the principal at the time this image was taken in 1889. By 1900 this high school became overcrowded and another building was constructed and opened in 1907. At that time, the Old Stone School (also known as Adams or School Number 2) was abandoned and the youngsters were moved into this former high school building which was renamed Lincoln School (also known as Number 15). This building was razed about 1940 and a new structure was built on the same location, maintaining the name Lincoln School. It later became known as Lincoln Fundamental Elementary School and as of 2010 is called Lincoln Academy of Integrated Arts. |
