DescriptionTwo men in uniform stand at attention on either side of a tall monument set in the middle of a dirt street. There are sidewalks and buildings visible along both sides of the street as well as trees that are in leaf. There is an iron fence surrounding the base of the monument.

NotesThe original published image is labeled Soldiers' monument. According to Downer's 1910 History of Scott County Iowa, it was built in 1880 at a cost of $8000. The Architectural/Historical Survey of Davenport, Iowa notes the designer was R. F. Carter, the obelisk is made of English granite in the neo-Grecian architectural style. It stands fifty feet high. The wrought iron fence around the base has been removed. The street is now paved.
