| Notes | The original negative envelope is labeled "L. W. McKowen". Based on information in Davenport city directories, the 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910 census, the 1905 Atlas of Scott County, Iowa, and an obituary in the Davenport Democrat newspaper it is probable the subjects in this portrait are George W. Leamer and wife Elizabeth Jane (Smiley) Leamer and their three children: son William A. Leamer, and daughters Emma (Leamer) Ried and Bertha "Bertie" (Leamer) McKown, wife of Louis W. McKown. The subjects in this image wear the exact clothing as in Image X382 (Image 1 of 2). The calendar hanging behind the group shows January 1 on Friday. Using a perpetual calendar, this calendar could be for 1897, 1904 or 1909. Most likely it was taken in 1897. The image may have been taken at 734 East 14th Street in Davenport, the home address of George W. Leamer during these years. The McKown family resided at 1608 Park Avenue, Davenport from 1902-1907. They are listed as living at 2425 Brady Street in the 1909 Davenport city directory. William Leamer and his family lived on a farm in LeClaire Township, Scott County. |
